Frequently Asked Questions of the Chamber
We are a Chamber of Change - The changes come from a constant transformation of the way we live and work in the Algonquin and Lake in the Hills area. We seek to make commerce happen through business expansion and attraction, as well as the advocacy efforts that help improve business in our area.

WHAT IS THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - We are a private, non-profit, voluntary, membership organization which advocates for business, its members range from sole proprietorships to multi-national corporations. The Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Chamber serves as the collective voice for business on issues affecting business and the communities we serve. Our members are committed to enhancing the local business climate and maintaining a high quality of life in the community. We are able to accomplish together what no one business could do alone. The Chamber is not part of government, but does work closely and cooperatively with it. The Chamber is an independent, nonprofit organization, that is funded primarily by the dues paid by its members on an annual basis. Chamber dues are tax deductible as a business expense.

DO I HAVE TO GET INVOLVED TO GET VALUE FROM MY MEMBERSHIP - No. While volunteering does add to the benefit of your membership, there are many benefits that do not require your valuable time; Hometown Guide, Chamber website, etc.

WHAT IS IN IT FOR ME AND MY COMPANY - A great opportunity to meet businesspeople, establish valuable contacts, and become an involved member of the community in a fun and professional atmosphere. Be a part of a growing and exciting organization which can offer a wealth of benefits, assistance, and savings for you and your employees. Also, included with your Chamber enrollment, you will receive a special Login and Password which allows you to post your events, "hot" deals, and job opportunities on the Chamber's website.

HOW DO YOU STAY INFORMED WITH YOUR CHAMBER MEMBERS - We keep our members informed though a monthly email schedule which not only includes what is going on with the Chamber, but also special emails informing the membership of upcoming members events and "hot" deals. WHAT IF MY EMPLOYEES WOULD LIKE TO BE ACTIVE IN THE CHAMBER - When a company joins The Chamber, the benefits effect not only the president or executive director of the company, but all of its employees as well. We encourage all company and organization employees to participate. You will see the resulting benefits when everyone in your company is involved. See back page for survey results.

I WANT TO JOIN BUT. . .I CAN'T AFFORD IT - Being invited to become a member of the Chamber of Commerce is not being asked to give away money. You are making an investment on which you get assured returns. Therefore, you can't afford not to belong. The investment is nominal when figured by the day, week, month. It adds little to your overhead and much to your company's development. The long term effects of The Chamber significantly outweigh the annual fee.

I'VE DECIDED TO JOIN, WHAT DO I DO NEXT - First of all, congratulations! The next step you would take is to fill out the enclosed membership application. Mail the application, or stop by and drop it off, or fax it to us at 847-658-6546. We can also walk you through the process by phone at 847.658-5300.

The Chamber is funded by your Membership Investment. A Chamber’s strength lies in the number and diversity of its Membership. Because a Chamber collectively embodies the vast experience of the businesses and professionals in its membership, it has the knowledge and insight to identify issues of importance to the business community, and the combined means to devise and implement strategies to address them.
